Therapeutic perspective/modalities:  I believe that children, adults and families are doing the best they can with what they have at any point in their lives.  Sometimes we learn coping skills that work well in certain timeframes, but those coping skills lose their effectiveness causing people to feel stuck or overwhelmed.  We want to change, but struggle with how to change.  Therapy is about exploring and discovering the most effective path to make the changes to get where you want to be.  I like to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person centered, strength based and play therapy techniques along with TF-CBT when needed.

Education/Training: I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master’s degree in Counseling Education, Counseling Psychology, and a graduate certificate in Alcohol and Drug Abuse.  I spent 10 years as a Juvenile Probation Officer and gained my Michigan Judicial Institute training through that.  I have also been trained by the WMU-CTAC team using their method to provide quality, evidence based neurodevelopmental assessments.  Additionally, I am trained in completing attachment observations and have completed level one of Theraplay Institute Training.  I am a nationally certified Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBY).

Personal Interesting Fact:  I have a trained therapy dog named Bella.  Bella is a Golden Doodle and likes to visit with people wherever she goes.

Specialty Areas:  I work with children and adults who are experiencing anxiety and depression.  Anger issues, behavioral issues, school issues, adoption and foster care and trauma are all issues that I am comfortable working with.

Yes sometimes life can be hard, even overwhelming and that's when it helps to have someone offer new ideas, new possibilities, a new direction. Is depression interfering with your ability to participate in life, in getting things done? Does anxiety cause you to avoid activities or people you really need to be involved with? Does stress overwhelm you, causing you to be ineffective or simply shut down?

Depression, anxiety and stress are common experiences that can be overcome with some new strategies that have helped many. Relief can happen quickly by developing new beliefs, behaviors and problem-solving strategies.

Together we can get to the solutions and restore physical, mental and emotional well-being. I have worked in the areas of mood disorders, anxiety, stress, grief and substance abuse. If you are looking for someone to encourage and help develop solutions for life challenges feel free to call and set up an appointment.
